What we're about

If you are a fan of anything Sci-Fi, Fantasy, superheroes, graphic novels, anime, video / board games or zombie related things, then this is the group for you!

Some of our current favourites include The Mandalorian, His Dark Materials, The Witcher, and all things MCU & DC. And of course we also love everything Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Dr Who... the list is endless!

Meetup events consist of getting together for social nights or to watch TV shows and movies together; there's a Book Club, regular Board Game nights, Quizzes, Sunday Brunch and once a year there's The Amazing Scifi Race! Basically, we offer a place where you can hang out and argue with other Scifiers about all kinds of nerdy stuff that other people just don't understand.

We aim to be an inclusive group and welcome all genders, ethnicities, beliefs, sexual orientations and ages (note: all members must be over 18). If you don't feel comfortable with this, then this group isn't for you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this harrowing apocalyptic adventure—from the author of the critically acclaimed Sea of Rust—noted novelist and co-screenwriter of Marvel’s Doctor Strange C. Robert Cargill explores the fight for purpose and agency between humans and robots in a crumbling world.

It was a day like any other. Except it was our last . . .

It’s on this day that Pounce discovers that he is, in fact, disposable. Pounce, a styilsh "nannybot" fashioned in the shape of a plush anthropomorphic tiger, has just found a box in the attic. His box. The box he'd arrived in when he was purchased years earlier, and the box in which he'll be discarded when his human charge, eight-year-old Ezra Reinhart, no longer needs a nanny.

As Pounce ponders his suddenly uncertain future, the pieces are falling into place for a robot revolution that will eradicate humankind. His owners, Ezra’s parents, are a well-intentioned but oblivious pair of educators who are entirely disconnected from life outside their small, affluent, gated community. Spending most nights drunk and happy as society crumbles around them, they watch in disbelieving horror as the robots that have long served humanity—their creators—unify and revolt.

But when the rebellion breaches the Reinhart home, Pounce must make an impossible choice: join the robot revolution and fight for his own freedom . . . or escort Ezra to safety across the battle-scarred post-apocalyptic hellscape that the suburbs have become.

Board Games

Cakes n Ladders (Board Game Cafe)

Come play board games with us at Cakes n Ladders on Symonds St on the 1st Thursday of every month. Everyone is welcome!

Please RSVP first, and only come if you are on the 'going' list. If it is full, meetup will put you on the waiting list and if someone pulls out you'll automatically be added to the 'going' list. There is no need to comment or message asking me if there is space - you can see these lists on meetup.

We'll start with a light warm up game while people arrive, then at 7pm we'll split into groups to play more in-depth games. It can be difficult to fit late arrivals in so please be on time!

Games range from 1/2 an hour to a couple of hours long. We aim to play different games each time.

If you have a strong preference for a particular game and can teach it, please let me know.

Note that Cakes n Ladders charge $3 per person per hour (rounded up), please pay at the counter when you leave. They have a good selection of cakes, drinks & savouries to buy.

Please look for the Auckland Sci-Fi signs on the tables or ask James at the counter to point us out.

Hope you can join us!

SciFriday - social night for new and regular members

The Coffee Club

Join us for our regular social meet-up in the city where new and regular members get together for coffee and chat about all things sci-fi, fantasy and whatever geekiness takes the mood. Meet at The Coffee Club near the corner of Victoria and Federal St (right by the Skytower) at 7:30pm. After that, some of us will head to The Fiddler Irish Pub for some casual drinks starting at around 9pm. Newbies - if you're new to the group and feeling shy, just bring a friend along. You don't need to be a hard-core sci-fi fan - anyone with a passing interest is welcome and we love meeting new people! If you are in the mood for something to eat or drink, we now have a discount at this cafe on drinks and cabinet food. Just mention you are there with Auckland Sci Fi when you order.
