Disaster Response Training

Details
Class is also offered on July 16 at 10am.
Train to be a virtual volunteer for the United Way 2-1-1 help line in the event of a natural disaster.
United Way for Greater Austin is offering a free training for people willing to answer calls between August and October, peak hurricane season for Texas. Volunteers should have basic computer and technology skills, be able to answer calls for two or more two-hour shifts, and have a desire to join us on our mission to break economic barriers and build opportunity for all.
You MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE (by July 8) at: https://volunteer.uwatx.org/opportunity/a0CPB00001k3GX92AM/disaster-response-training-info-session-2 .
Topics to be covered:
- Overview of 2-1-1 and the history of the critical role United Way plays in responding to disasters in Central Texas
- Examples of calls received during and after recent hurricanes
- Training on how to take and respond to a call during a disaster using UW's referral software/system
- Q&A
After you have completed your training, you may be called upon over the next year to volunteer virtually on the 2-1-1 call for help line and respond to disaster response needs as they arise.
