About us
Hope lives in those who fight for a better tomorrow.
Unruled Masses (UM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit building a more informed, connected, and empowered civic community in Austin.
We bring people together to better understand how power works, recognize when it’s being abused, and explore how those abuses affect everyday people and our communities. We believe people are better equipped to create change when they have good information, meaningful relationships, and practical ways to participate.
UM is building a community of curious, engaged people from all walks of life. You don’t need to be a political expert, organizer, or activist. Whether you’re already deeply involved in civic life or simply wondering where to start, there’s a place for you here.
Our events include community gatherings, conversations about local issues, educational workshops, speakers, civic skill-building, and opportunities to take lawful and nonviolent action. We also connect members with relevant events and organizations throughout Austin, sometimes attending together or partnering with other community groups.
We’re here to learn together, ask better questions, build connections, and discover what becomes possible when people act together.
Join the Unruled Masses. Democracy is non-negotiable.
