A panel discussion on Ethics (doors open @ 630PM)

Details

In February we will be hosting a panel on Ethics.

ˈeTHiks - moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity.
This moderated panel will ask and discuss questions like:

How do Ethics come into play when searching for work?
How can we speak up for Ethics when it comes to trade-offs in our work?
How can we support making Ethics-aligned work more widely possible, rather than a privilege?
We hope to come with questions, and leave with more questions. Hopefully you will enjoy this engaging discussion.

Look forward to seeing you there.

# Moderator
Oli Treadwell:
Probably not a lizard person,.... probably? Definitely, a software engineer currently "saving FAKE NEWS as we know it" by Paywalling your favorite brands at Condé Nast. Works full stack in JavaScript, and won't apologise for it. Enjoys varieties of movement for mental health, conscientious simplicity, and creative exploration.

# Panelists
Ashley Lewis:

  • Thinks best in bullet points.
  • Prone to opining about movement, javascript, cycling, feminism, team dynamics and code review, art, job title inflation, and of course, the ethical ramifications of all of the above.
  • (Constructively) critical AF.
  • Insufferably curious.
  • Just googled optimistic nihilism and is thrilled this is already A Thing.
  • Seeking solutions to the programmer movement problem - if you know how I can hike, climb, or even walk and produce software simultaneously, DM me ASAP. We should be friends.
  • By day asks "stupid" questions (and occasionally writes code) at Cloudflare on the Workers team.

Cori is a proud double alumna of Lamar University, where she earned her Master of Educational Technology Leadership degree.
