Hornsby Bend Walk
Details
The Austin Water Center for Environmental Research at the Hornsby Bend, where the Colorado River makes a horseshoe bend, was formed by the City of Austin with UT and Texas A&M. While it plays a key role in sustaining Austin's environment recycling biosolids and yard trimmings, it is also nationally known for its biodiversity and ecotourism. It is a wildlife mecca, with shady walking trails along the Colorado River, and is recognized as one of the best birding sites in Texas.
Because this is a wastewater facility, all visitors must present an ID (such as driver's license) at the front gate. This is an American Volkssport Association (AVA) walk presented by the Colorado River Walkers who charge $4. Park by the buildings on your right as you enter and we'll meet at their sign-in table.
