Hike the Maxwell Trail on Slaughter Creek in SW Austin

Let's go for a 5 mile hike on the Maxwell Trail, formerly known as the Slaughter Creek Trail, off FM 1826. The trail is mostly flat but parts are rocky, and it is partly sunny, partly shady. We will hike for about two hours. Go about half a mile after you turn off 1826 and park in the lot. We will meet by the old house.
Directions: The trailhead is off FM 1826/Camp Ben McCullough Rd. From Austin, go south on Loop 1/Mopac and exit Slaughter Lane right. Continue on Slaughter to Camp Ben McCullough Rd/FM1826. Turn left and drive approximately 0.9 mile. Cross the low water bridge over Slaughter Creek and the property/gate entrance will be on your left. Or you can go west on 290 past the Y in Oak Hill and turn left onto Camp Ben McCullough Rd/FM1826. Drive approximately 1.8 miles, cross the low water bridge over Slaughter Creek and the property/gate entrance will be on your left.
There are portable toilets at the trailhead.
Please consider if you are in shape for this kind of hike, for your safety and in consideration of others. Wear good shoes, a hat and bring water! Some people like to use hiking poles. Please check this website for cancellation in case of bad weather.
