5 mile On Leash Moderately Hard Hike Sky Meadows State Park - $10 fee to enter
Details
This is very pretty hike through fields and wooded, fairly steep terrain. The paths are well maintained, and fairly heavily traveled. This is a very popular park, so you can expect to run into other hikers here, especially on the weekend. There are many trails in the area to choose from, ranging from less than a mile to 8+ miles. The park trails connect up to the Appalachian Trail, south of where it heads into Ashby Gap.
This hike covers a popular loop: up the South Run Trail to the Appalachian Trail and then down the Piedmont Overlook Trail (opposite direction of the AllTrails Map).
Where: Sky Meadow State Park - 1hr 15min from DC - Delaplane VA
$10 fee to enter the park. Enter through the main entrance and continue to the main parking area near the farmhouse, bathrooms and visitor center.
