End of Summer Fours tournament (Private Event)

Information subject to change. This is a private tournament for regular high-beginner/intermediate Redondo Beach Volleyball Meetup players only; no outside invites allowed. When you RSVP, you’ll be placed on the “waitlist” then added to the “going” list once the entrance fee is received. The initial player limit is 32, but may increase.

When: September 27, 2026, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm-ish
Why: Celebrate improved skills, mark the end of summer, raise funds for equipment and cigars, and celebrate the group.
Who: Regular Redondo Beach Volleyball Meetup players only
How:

• RSVP individually through Meetup event
• Entrance fee: $10 through Sept. 20 or $20 after Sept. 20
• Pay cash on Sundays (preferred) or Venmo to Mike. No other payment accepted.

Format: On tournament day, each player will be assigned a permanent partner to form a “pair”. Each round, a pair will play with another pair (forming a fours team) and play against two opposing pairs. Winners move up a court, losers move down a court where they play with a different pair. Each round will have a score and time limit. The tournament will have at least 8 rounds of games plus finals. The number and length of games depend on the number of participants. The average game score for each pair determine ranking for finals. Small prizes for winners.

In addition to standard sand rules, the following rules will be in effect:

1. No open-hand serve-receive or tips (standard sand rule)
2. No open-hand sets over the net… ever.
3. Open-hand first contact on a non-driven ball is discouraged and mocked, but not enforced.

Additional info:

• Check-in starts promptly at 12pm. There will be a 10-minute grace period, but late-comers may be noted, mocked, penalized, and/or disqualified.
• Day-of entry may be possible (not guaranteed) on a first-come basis based on available spots, no-shows, and cancellations.
• Refund for cancellation before 9/20/26.
• Tournament will persist through light rain. High winds, heavy rain, or other reasons may cause the tournament to be postponed 2-weeks.
• Attributes of a “Redondo Beach Volleyball Meetup” player include: consistently plays with the high-beginner/intermediate net on Sundays; has attended the 1pm Sunday training session; member of the Meetup WhatsApp group; plays with the group consistently on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays; can easily be named by several other players.
• DO NOT SIGN UP if you cannot play until the end. Players must play all assigned games or will pay to refund their partner’s entrance fee and be banned from the next tournament.
