What we’re about
AVL Writers (formerly Asheville Writers) started some time ago with events across for the WNC region. As of spring 2022, it's a week-to-week gathering of writers in Asheville, NC who are actively working on a piece with the intention of publishing (or not). This includes all formats: long-form fiction excerpts like novels, novellas, short stories, screenplays, poetry, flash fiction, etc. We are critique-based, but that is not all we have been so far.
You can join the email list at our website.
The group is critique-based, meaning that most events will feature an honest critique of anyone's work who is willing to share it. So far Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Odd's Cafe has been our most consistent schedule.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Weekly CritiqueOdd's Cafe, Asheville, NC
This is the standing weekly critique at Odd's. Bring anything new you're working on to share with the group. If you don't have a project to share, you are most welcome to attend, discuss, and get inspired.
For our group discussion, please bring at least 8-10 printed copies of your piece. That way, we can all read through each other's work and provide feedback.
Sharing our creative efforts is an important part of the writing process. I'm really looking forward to reading what you've been working on. Don't worry if it's still a rough draft.
If anyone has any trouble getting copies printed out, please let me know.
If you're having trouble finding us, look for a placard on the table with the group's name or ask the staff (they will point us out).If you would like to join our group email list for updates regarding contests, events, and to request to join the group Discord, you can sign up on our website.
