Melbourne AWS User Group #146 - March 2025

Details
π Join us for the AWS User Group Meetup on 26 March! π
As usual, we're back on the last Wednesday of the month. We are still finalising the talks of the evening (as a reminder, always feel free to reach out if you're interested in speaking), but will hopefully provide these details in the next couple of days. It was just getting late enough that we wanted to announce the meetup already.
We also of course have our regular sections, covering what's going on in the community and what new. goodies AWS has brought us in the past month.
As a reminder, we will start with the food and socialising at 6 pm, but the actual contents of the meetup (and live stream) will begin at 6:30.
Our thanks to Mantel Group (https://mantelgroup.com.au) for their continued sponsorship.
See below for the full agenda. The event will be streamed on YouTube (https://melb.awsug.org.au/live) as always.

# # Q, BedRock and Agentic Programming - A Beginners Guide
* Matt Merriel
Level 200
That's Right... Another talk on AI, but this one's going to be a little different.
We've all no doubt heard about agentic AI and how all software developers are going to lose their jobs because AI's going to do it for them. But that raises two big questions:
1. How good is AI at actually building production-ready applications and code?
2. How can you get started without having to be an AI expert?
So let's set ourselves a challenge... Can we build and deploy an application into production in 30 minutes or less? We'll need to set ourselves up with some tools (Amazon Q Developer and Amazon BedRock), set up our development environment and then build our application. But it doesn't count unless it's in production... so we'll also need to deploy it into an AWS account.
Along the way, we'll talk about the pros and cons of using Agentic AI for software development as well as where different tools work and when it's better to use one over the other. IF you've been curious about this whole Agentic AI thing, if you want to do more in less time, or even if you want to look more productive... come along and learn how to get started.

We are always looking for speakers and believe everyone has an interesting talk hiding inside themselves. If you are interested in letting that talk out at a future event you can get in touch at the meetup, on the website (https://melb.awsug.org.au/speak/), or reach out to one of the organisers on our Slack.
