Details

Hey everyone,

this time we're hosted at the Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland office in Cologne. Please make sure to sign up beforehand! At the RTL reception area ask for the “AWS Meetup” and they’ll guide you to the location.

Agenda:

• 18:30h – meet up, socialising, food & drinks

• 19:00h – Intro

• 19:15h – Maik Glatki (RTL): Using Lambda@Edge as a drop-in replacement legacy tire fires

When dealing with cloud migrations old, grown and possibly unknown systems, one is often looking for shortcuts and drop-in-replacements for parts of the system.
Those systems may or may not have any documentation and tend to have a lot of quirks and border cases.
This talk will be on how we used Lambda@Edge as a tool to reimplement multiple layers of our on-premise architecture for a time-critical migration.
I will talk about problems and surprises that occur when you try to reimplement a black box in Lambda@Edge, what is easy, what is hard, and what we would like to have known beforehand.

Maik Glatki is a Cloud Solutions Architect at Cologne Broadcasting Center which is part of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. He is part of the Datacenter & Clouds department and spends his days mostly with infrastructure as code, scalable architectures, migrations to the cloud and ECS/Fargate.

• 20:00h – short break food & drinks

• 20:30h – Sebastian Cohnen (StormForger): Performance Testing AWS Serverless

Serverless applications might help you to get rid of a lot of details when it comes to developing and operating your applications. But there is of course no silver bullet for all topics so you should know what you are dealing with. This talk will be about challenges and strategies for performance testing serverless applications and also present some of the typical common pitfalls that we and our customers are encountering.

Sebastian Cohnen is co-founder and CTO of StormForger in Cologne, a performance testing SaaS for agile and DevOps companies. He is working with scalable, high-performance systems for years and is now mainly (load) testing and assessing those kinds of systems for his customers. Helping others to build scalable systems, discussing software architecture and especially how to assess its quality in practice are his main areas of interest.

• 21:00h – socialising & drinks
