Hi Everyone!

Please be informed of the upcoming meetup scheduled on Thursday, 20-October-2022.

Here is the agenda for this event,

1. Building modern cloud native applications? Think integration! by Arthi Jaganathan, Principal Solutions Architect, AWS

Modular architecture patterns is one of the principles of modern applications. This makes integration a key component of modern applications that you must consider early in your design. In this talk you will learn how expressing intent in terms of communication patterns and working backwards from workload characteristics will help you navigate the many options for integration services on the cloud.

2. AWS Controller for Kubernetes by Badri Kesavan

It is very natural for any Cloud hosted container based application to rely on and to be dependant on the services from the cloud provider ( Say, SQS for messaging, S3 for Backup, RDS for Database, etc.. ) to deliver a fully functional container based application. How have we created those container dependant cloud services so far ? Some form of Cloud formation ? Terraform ? and tying back the configurations using configmap ?

What if we define and use AWS services directly from kubernetes ? In this talk, We will run through the design and deployment details of AWS controller for kubernets which integrates AWS resources directly with kubernetes lifecycle and what new challenges this brings in to the organisation and how can we go about addressing it. We will conclude the talk by discussing some of the anti patterns of using AWS controller for kubernetes.

3. Container migration made easy by Yong Kang, Principal Containers Specialist

Container migration is a very challenging task. That might directly slow down the customers’ Cloud adoption. In this session, I will share how you can quickly migrate a containerised application from OnPrem or other Cloud to Amazon EKS. 3 mins (for small apps) to migrate containers is not a dream. You will see a live demo too.

4. Networking at nearby Pub :)

Important reminders

- Bring your identification (NRIC, driver's license, work pass)

  • As usual for all in-person meetups, there will be pizza provided to attendees, on a first come first serve basis (we will cater to vegetarians, halal as well) courtesy of AWS. This will be served from 6.30 onwards. It will be limited and on a first-come-first-served basis, so do not come too late else it will run out

- There will be buy-your-own-drinks networking after the actual meetup at a nearby pub (probably Kazbar)

- There will be swag / credit codes give-aways

Actual Day Procedures:
