Learn Linux – Digital Ocean (Cloud), and DNS

Details
Up to this point, all our work has been about local machines. For round 3 we want to start exploring doing stuff on remote resources.
In this class we will:
-
Create a server machine in Digital Ocean's cloud. You can use SFS' account or create your own, but the process will be very similar to using AWS or other cloud providers.
-
Create DNS records in the sofree.us domain at Gandi!
-
If we have time, we can practice creating a server machine in AWS as well.
Prerequisites: Hopefully you’ve attended one of the catch-up sessions but if not, please make sure you have virtualbox downloaded/installed to your laptop ( https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads ), then download/install Centos 7 Minimal server and workstation ( https://www.centos.org/download/ ). If you can figure it out from googling, create a centos 7 server and workstation on vbox and connect them on the same vnetwork (NAT network or bridged).
If you get stuck please PM us and we will set some time aside to walk you through it on a webex prior to class.
As always we’ll have folks available in the class to assist with this as well, but anything you can do prior to class will help speed things up.
Lunch will be served at noon, see you there!
$16 or PWYC
