Accurate, Agreed – and Still No Action

In business analysis, it is possible to break a problem down correctly, agree on the numbers and requirements, and still struggle to identify what is truly driving the outcome—or what needs to change.
In this interactive session, Colin Wu will explore a challenge many BAs recognise: analysis may correctly describe the parts of a problem without explaining the relationships and mechanisms that cause it to behave as it does. Using a practical example the group will work through together, Colin will examine what this distinction means for problem analysis, requirements and decision-making.
Colin will cover:

• Why accurate analysis and stakeholder agreement do not always lead to effective action
• The difference between organising a problem into parts and explaining what drives the outcome
• How familiar tools, such as fishbone diagrams and process maps, can support analysis—but may not provide a complete explanation
• How to move from “what happened” to a clearer understanding of “why it happened”
• Practical ways to structure analysis for better decisions, more meaningful requirements and purposeful change
• Insights and experiences shared by participants during the session

Colin Wu is a finance, performance and analytics professional with over 20 years’ experience across multinational organisations and the New Zealand public sector. His work spans the full decision-support cycle: turning data into analysis and recommendations, then connecting these to performance management and action tracking. Colin is a CPA (Australia), IBCS® Certified Consultant, Advanced Financial Modeler (AFM), and Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst.
