JUNE 11- 15 - THE CAIRNGORMS NATIONAL PARK (SCOTLAND)

Details

Join us for some truly wild Scottish mountain walking in the vast Cairngorms National Park!

Accommodation - Self catering chalets with private single and twin share rooms. Group size - 18. Nights - 4.

Shared twin room - £409
Private single room - £459

This is the UK's largest national park and has 5 of the 6 highest mountains in the country. The Cairngorms is a huge region with a wide variety of landscapes from the pine forested banks of the grand River Spey to the high plateaux of Cairngorm and Ben Macdui towering about Loch Avon.

The wildlife-watching opportunities in this area are also fantastic, this is a stronghold of the red squirrel and the elusive capercaillie. The Cairngorms has a large population of red deer as well as 150 reindeer, Britains only free roaming herd.

We will have 3 full days of hiking to bag some summits and take in the wild atmosphere of this unique part of the highlands. Our itineraries are always adapted to fit the weather conditions we face but some of the hiking highlights of the National Park include...

  • The summits of Ben Macdui and Cairngorm
  • The Lairig Ghru glen
  • The Rothiemurchus forest
  • The Speyside way trail

ACCOMODATION
On this trip we have secured 4 lovely chalets on the shores of Loch Insh, each with a self catering kitchen and comfortable lounge/dining area. The Chalets have some single rooms and some twin rooms with shared bathrooms.

The chalets are set in a peaceful spot surrounded by woodland but we also have the advantage of the small town of Aviemore just a 15 minute drive up the road. Aviemore has many restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, outdoors shops and just about anything else we might need.

DIFFICULTY
Due to the wild nature of the area the hikes on this trip will involve some longer days with distances of over 10 miles and around 1000m of ascent over rough terrain. Therefore it is best suited to fit and experienced hikers.
