What we’re about
This meetup brings together anyone interested in backend to discuss a wide range of technical topics. Each session features two talks, covering areas such as new backend technologies, system architecture, performance optimizations, and real-world engineering challenges. Some talks are highly technical, while others introduce interesting problem domains and industry trends. If not stated otherwise, the talks will be in English.
The format is straightforward: two talks followed by networking, food, and drinks, providing an opportunity for engineers to exchange ideas and discuss solutions to common challenges.
We plan to organize an event four times a year, hosted at different companies to offer diverse perspectives and environments. Whether you’re working with distributed systems, APIs, databases, or large-scale applications, this is a space for backend professionals and other backend enthusiasts to share knowledge and learn from each other.

🔹 What’s happening?
We’ll hear from Aljaž Blazej Team lead at Teads, and Rene Svetina Team lead at Bragg, as they dive into two interesting backend topics:• The Microservices Survival Guide by Aljaž Blazej
- Discover how to launch a production-ready microservice — complete with observability, discovery, and CI/CD — in under an hour. Unpacking the internal libraries and tooling that helps us run 500+ microservices, enabling real-time request flows, dependency visualizations and more.
• Testing is NOT optional by Rene Svetina
- As codebases grow, robust testing becomes crucial. This talk illustrates how bugs often surface and escalate when testing is inadequate in larger projects, followed by a brief overview of key types of software testing. The insights shared are grounded in real-world experience maintaining a system with over 10,000 integration tests.
🔹 Who should attend?
Anyone working with or interested in backend technologies—developers, architects, students, or anyone eager to dive deeper into backend engineering. The sessions will be in English 🇬🇧.Be part of the launch and help shape the future of the Slovenian Backend Meetup! 🎉
