Evid Dead 2 + Unconventional Heros

I feel Ash is a character that people love in part because it's easy to identify with him. Unlike Batman who is a born billionaire that becomes "more than a man" due to tragedy, or Spider-man who's an intelligent autism with a good heart who gets bit by a radioactive spider and gains superpowers, Ash is just kinda a moron.

During the first Evil Dead film Ash was basically inept, useless, and basically survives the film by accident.

By the second Evil Dead Ash loses a hand but manages to grow a backbone, and transforms into the idiot-savant chainsaw wielding hero everyone loves, dishing out one liners like candy.

Once the final evil dead film "Army of Darkness" takes place (fun fact, at one point this film was supposed to be called the "Mid-Evil Dead") Ash is still a ill-equipped moron, but he's changed enough that he's the person best suited to save a kingdom of screw heads.

That's the reason why I feel Ash resonates so much with people, he isn't rich, he doesn't have superpowers, he's no genius, he's often scared, but he's not a coward, and he tends to rise to the occasion. I think heroism isn't about being fearless, but overcoming ones limitations in service of a greater good.

People don't start off kicking ass, and delivering explosive insults equivalent to a Hezbollah pager, it takes a certain amount of time to build to that, which is why Ash is such an affable asshole...Anyway...

The Vic is licensed, so you can buy booze there, the gang usually meets for drinks early, and grabs drinks after.
