This 2-class beginner series will introduce you to the foundations of American Mahjong and give you the knowledge you need to begin playing the game.

### 2 Classes • 2 Hours Each • $55

Your current NMJL card is included.
Over our two classes, we'll take the mystery out of all those tiles and that very confusing-looking card!

You'll learn:

Getting to Know the Game

• The Mahjong tiles — Bams, Cracks, Dots, Winds, Dragons, Flowers and Jokers
• How to read and understand the National Mah Jongg League card
• How Mahjong hands are constructed
• What the colors, numbers, symbols and groupings on the card mean
• How to begin matching your tiles to possible hands

Putting It All Together

• Choosing possible hands from the tiles you're dealt
• The Charleston and how tiles are passed
• Picking and discarding
• Calling tiles and making exposures
• How and when Jokers can be used
• The basic flow and rules of play
• What happens when someone calls Mahjong!

We'll work with the tiles throughout the classes so you can begin putting what you're learning into practice.

### And Then...It's Time to Play!

Learning how Mahjong works and becoming comfortable actually playing it are two different things.

After completing the Beginner Series, you'll be ready for our Practice & Play — Guided Play sessions.

And here's the best part: you'll be playing with other newer players just like you.

You won't be expected to jump straight into a game with seasoned players or worry about keeping up with a fast-moving table. Practice & Play is specifically designed to give newer players a comfortable place to gain experience together.

I'll be there to guide the games, answer questions, give reminders, help you navigate the card, and talk through situations as they come up. You can learn from your own hands — and from the questions and hands of the other players at the table.

There's no rush to "graduate." Attend Practice & Play as often as you'd like until you feel comfortable playing independently.

From there, you can choose the kind of Mahjong experience you enjoy — continue developing your strategy, join us for relaxed Just for Fun games, or eventually work your way toward Advanced/Tournament-Ready play.

No experience is necessary. Everything you need to get started is provided — including your NMJL card.
