Loy Krathong 2017, one of the most beautiful Thai festivals

Details

Loy Krathong is one of the most beautiful Thai festivals, and it is a time to give thanks to the goddess of waters and to seek forgiveness for past misdeeds. It occurs at night during the full moon of the 12th Thai lunar month (this year, November 3rd).

Loy literally means “to float,” while Krathong refers to the lotus-shaped vessels containing candles, incense and flowers which participants float down rivers and on lakes and ponds everywhere. The Krathong is made from materials such as banana leaves, banana tree trunks, coconut barks or even paper.

Schedule

6:00 PM - We will meet first for a quick dinner and chat at MOS Burger on the G Floor (ground floor) of Siam Paragon (next to KFC).
(Siam Paragon is next to the Siam Station of the BTS Skytrain and is connected by Skybridge at Exits 3 and 5.)

6:50 PM - After dinner, assemble in hallway in front of MOS Burger

7:00 PM (promptly) - Proceed from Siam Paragon to the BTS Skytrain Siam Station

7:10 PM - Take the BTS Skytrain to the Mo Chit (Morchit) station, the northern-most stop (a 15-minute ride).

7:25 PM - Take Skytrain Exit 3 and then a 3-minute walk to a small lake in the park next to where the Chatuchak Weekend Market is held at other times. At the entrance to this park, you can buy a Krathong to float.

7:30 PM - You can walk around the small lake in the park and see young people and families floating the krathongs with candles and flowers on the lake. This is a sight not to be missed. The same thing occurs at all Bangkok parks and at many spots along the Chao Phraya River but our location will be less crowded.
