Steam Train trip to Chachoengsao on December 5, 2017

Details

See "Unseen Thailand" with us! With New Trip Travel (train travel specialists), we will have a very special December 5th steam train trip to Chachoengsao ( Thai: ฉะเชิงเทรา ) an "off the beaten track" town in central Thailand, the capital of Chachoengsao Province. It is on the banks of the Bang Pakong River.

The town was established in 1549 during the reign of King Maha Chakkrapat of Ayutthaya and originally was a center for military recruitment. During the reign of King Maha Thammaracha, the kingdom was in a weak condition because of being defeated by the Burmese. Phraya Lawaek, the Khmer king, conscripted Thais from several towns including Chachoengsao to be in his work force.

There are a number of interesting places to see in Chachoengsao. New Trip Travel is working up a detailed schedule, which will be sent to you in the next several days. Needless to say, they have been to all these places. I have been using this travel agency for the low-cost trips of the Bangkok Travel Meetup Group since 2009. Their chief guide is very fluent in English and you don't have to strain to understand what she is saying. At one point, she won an award from the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

SCHEDULE (details for Chachoengsao coming soon)

The train will leave Bangkok Station (otherwise known as Hua Lamphong) at 8:10am. You can take the MRT subway (underground train) to that station. Just take Exit #2 when leaving the MRT. That exit will take you directly into the Hua Lamphong railway station.

The train leaves PROMPTLY at 8:10am so be sure you get to the station in time. We will meet initially by the Information window (under a large screen TV) and at 7:45 AM will move to the train's departure track. The departure board will probably not indicate the track number so ask at the Information window.

Arrival in Chachoengsao will be at 9:50am. The return journey leaves Chachoengsao at 4:30pm and arrives back in Bangkok at 6:10pm.

IMPORTANT

To come up with the price for this trip, we need to get a general idea of how many people will attend. So if you are at all interested in attending (no commitment at this point), please RSVP "Yes" where the web page says "Are you going?"

Think of what it would be like to see this steaming monster of an engine in person!
