Ajahn Sucitto was the abbot of Cittaviveka – Chithurst Buddhist Monastery in Sussex England from 1992 until 2014. He was born in London and went forth as a bhikkhu in Thailand in March 1976. Ajahn Sucitto returned to Britain in 1978 and took up training under Luang Por Sumedho at the Hampstead Buddhist Vihara. In 1979 he was one of the small group of monks, led by Luang Por Sumedho, who established Cittaviveka – Chithurst Buddhist Monastery. In 1981 he was sent to Northumberland to set up a small monastery in Harnham, which subsequently became Aruna Ratanagiri Monastery. In 1984 he accompanied Luang Por Sumedho in establishing Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in Hertfordshire. In 1992 he was appointed abbot of Cittaviveka. Ajahn Sucitto’s main work has been in teaching, editing and writing and he was also largely responsible for the creation of the protocols and standards that flesh out the Ten Precept training of the Sīladharā (nuns) Order. Registration starts August 11th for a retreat with Ajahn Jayanto. Dates are 5 pm Tues Dec 16th to noon Saturday Dec 20, 2025. Location is Baanpootmontha Retreat Center about 70 km north and east of Don Mueang Airport off the Ongkarak Road, Nakorn Nayok Province (GPS 14.032724°, 101.038810°). Requesting transportation from Bangkok is an option in your registration form.This will be an 8 precept, silent retreat in English only, suitable for beginners and experienced yogis alike for those who seek to find their true refuge. The venue is small with 30 single (fan only) rooms, each with attached bathroom. The cost to cover your full costs of food (vegetarian), accommodation, and a share of Ajahn’s local travel and accommodation, retreat operational expenses, etc, is estimated to total about THB 3,700 (approx US$ 114) per person for the retreat and an additional THB 700 for round trip transportation between Bangkok and the facility. Dana for Ajahn is optional and you can offer this at the retreat.

Registration begins on Aug 11th at 9.00 am until the 30 places are full on a first come first served basis. After your registration is received, you will be notified of the bank detail in a confirmation email. Your payment must be received in full within 5 days after your confirmation. A waiting list will also be available in case of cancellations.
Please also note that, after your registration is confirmed and payment is made, there will be no refund for cancellation.
Ajahn Jayanto is an American-born monk and has trained for over 25 years in Buddhist monasteries in the UK, Thailand, and other Asian countries. He will provide meditation instructions, conduct Question and Answer sessions and speak on the benefits of Buddhist practices and principles for our complex, modern lives. Ajahn Jayanto has helped to lead the efforts to establish a branch monastery in New England, and he now serves as an abbot of Temple Forest Monastery. This will be his first open retreat in Thailand and will be a good opportunity for us all to deepen our practice.
