Calling all dumpling lovers!

Do you know what a Momo is? The unofficial national dish of Nepal, the Momo is a delicious juicy dumpling that is a staple of Nepali cuisine. Various cultures, including those in Tibet and India, have different approaches to making Momos - but the humble Nepali Momo’s beauty lies in its special condiments and the social process behind it.

For this edition of Kitchen Backstories, we’ll take you on a culinary journey to Nepal, sharing with you the history of the Momo, the art behind its preparation - and, of course, a taste of this delectable dumpling.

Get ready to have some fun, some good food - and some new good friends!

Things participants will learn:

History behind the delicacy

How to make ideal dough for momos

How to roll the dough

Options and alternatives for stuffing/filling (vegetarian momo choices available if participants inform ahead of time)

2 to 3 designs for shapes

How to make the most famous dipping for momos.

FEE

  • Early Bird: THB 890 per person (expires July 8)

Inclusive of ingredients, welcome Nepali drinks and Kitchen Backstories 'goody bag' (includes recipe cards).

Cooking equipment will be provided by the venue.

Stella Ungphongphan

The Wellness Fairy, Stella Wellness

Made in Thailand and raised in Sydney Australia, Stella is a wellness consultant based in Bangkok. At age 26, an inner urge led her to resign from her day job as a Radiographer, and pack her life in two suitcases in search of a fulfilling life with passion and purpose.

Fast forward some years later - when she is not creating exciting wholesome meals or menus, she's with nature moving her body through yoga, trekking out to the rural farms around Thailand and teaching others to do the same. She is constantly fuelled by her love and passion for nutrition, organic farming, natural therapies and whipping up new delicious healthy menus. She's also a firm believer in the healing power of living harmoniously with nature - and that wellness is an active process of becoming aware of making choices toward a healthy, fulfilling and a Stellar life.

Mimansha Joshi

Mimismenu

Born and raised in Nepal, Mimansha is a climate change and sustainability officer based in Bangkok. Aside from her professional life, her personal life is a huge part of who she is- a foodie yogi! A health food enthusiast, she finds nutrition to be a foundation for a good mind and healthy living as can be seen in her personal Instagram blog, @mimismenu where she has combined her interests in healthy living, food and photography together. She is constantly seen motivating her followers to create healthy recipes from smoothie bowls to healthier Nepali food alternatives- like replacing Quinoa for flattened rice, or choosing ghee for vegetable oil. Her active engagement in food and healthy living brought her to various platforms like The Busy Woman Project, who’s featured many of her recipes.

FOUNDER, KITCHEN BACKSTORIES

Rosalind Yunibandhu

A curious flexitarian aspiring towards plant-based living, Rosalind founded Kitchen Backstories as a means to surface and share food stories that can help us develop a fuller understanding of the people, ingredients and traditions 'behind the plate'. She believes that through appreciating the 'backstory', and thereby deepening our relationship to food, we can also develop a fuller understanding of ourselves and the world.

Rosalind is a graduate of plant-based academy, Matthew Kenney Culinary (obtaining her Certificates in the Fundamentals of Raw Cuisine and Culinary Nutrition in 2015), a student of the Jamie Oliver Cookery School - and is currently pursuing the Wines and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Award (Level 2 - Distinction). She also holds a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from Cambridge University, and an M.Sc. in Educational Studies from Oxford University - and is founder of the PwC Thailand Sustainability & Climate Change practice, where she advised on corporate sustainability and climate change-related matters in the food and beverage sector for close to a decade. Rosalind also spent 2 years in Geneva with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development as part of the Future Leaders Team, and as project manager for the ambitious global CEO-led sustainability initiative, Action2020.
