Live Music & Silent Cinema: Pandora's Box (1929)

Silent tragedy becomes a gripping story of desire and destruction. G. W. Pabst’s Pandora’s Box (Die Büchse der Pandora) follows Lulu, played by Louise Brooks, whose charm and sensuality unsettle both men and women around her. Countess Geschwitz stands out as one of early cinema’s first explicitly queer female characters, portrayed with striking depth for its time. As Lulu’s relationships spiral into obsession, jealousy, and violence, she drifts through a series of increasingly precarious situations.

We plan to gather after the show for a drink and some tapas in order to discuss the film
