The Hunt (115') - A Watch Party

How quickly can a close-knit community turn against one of its own? This week we’re watching The Hunt (Jagten, 2012), Thomas Vinterberg’s unsettling Danish drama starring Mads Mikkelsen as Lucas, a recently divorced teacher rebuilding his life while working at a kindergarten. But after a child makes an accusation, suspicion begins to spread — and Lucas suddenly finds himself at the centre of a community turning against him.

After the screening, we’ll be joined by our friend, historian and anthropologist Sergey Nikolsky for a discussion about the questions the film leaves deliberately uncomfortable: how rumours become accepted as truth, why groups can be so quick to choose a scapegoat, and whether trust can ever be restored once it has been destroyed.
