What we’re about

*** This is a good idea, just beyond what I am a good leader for. There are plenty of acoustic meetup groups, nothing for electric out there. Maybe someone else can do a good job at running this group, but that person is not me. It was a good experiment though, thanks to everyone that participated. ***

Hello and Welcome to an experiment in music jam sessions… This group is for recreational musicians that are NOT out to impress the world with their amazing skills, years of experience, and expensive equipment. We will be playing simple classic rock songs, NOT trying to replicate the original versions, quietly enough to not have the authorities make us stop and leave.

This group is about having a place to play simple versions of easy classic rock songs at low volume to have some fun just hanging out and jamming not alone at home. You are always welcome to just hang out and relax without playing if you don’t play an instrument. Maybe this will inspire you to try.

You’ll need a small, low power, battery powered amp (and any effects) for your guitar or bass, or keyboard if it doesn’t have onboard speakers, and I suppose a uke could do this too, as well as acoustic guitars. Vocals (if any) will probably be best not amplified, we’ll see…??? If anyone wants to solo over the chord progressions we can work that out too. We’ll use a simple drum machine to provide a beat and tempo to play along with to keep us all in time playing together (no acoustic drums). We cannot use the park power supplies in any way, and we cannot be a public nuisance while doing this. If we have a substantial turnout we will need to take turns playing so as not to be too loud.

I’ll set things up so you can find the easy version chords (for guitar, keyboard, or uke) on Ultimate Guitar so you can familiarize yourself with what we will be working with on any given day. We’ll be playing just the verses and chorus without any other ‘special’ sections from the original songs (isolated bridges, solo break chord progressions, things like that), nothing fancy, just simple versions just for fun. Maybe bring a pen and pad to write down the chords being used. We are NOT trying to replicate the original versions, just having some fun playing some familiar songs.

Bring whatever you need to be comfortable; a folding chair or stool, something to snack on or drink (alcohol is not permitted in public parks, and don’t smoke weed or vape it), etc., whatever.

And I guess that’s it, we’ll see if this experiment in jam sessions works out…???
