Underground Showgirl Speakeasy @ Clarion
Details
Washington Square Park to a basement you'd never find on your own. We got the whole space to ourselves - underground museum’s usually packed for guided experiences like this, but they're closing to the public just for us.
The route:
- Washington Square Park (meet at ~4PM)
- Grab quick bites down Columbus Avenue if you're hungry
- End at Showgirl Magic Museum (5 PM)
About the Showgirl Magic Museum: It's a basement museum in Chinatown dedicated to SF's mid-20th century nightclub culture - showgirls, feathers, the whole thing. Created by Cynthia Yee, former dancer and Miss Chinatown 1967, during pandemic lockdown when her piano studio went quiet and she decided this history needed to exist somewhere. Most people don't know Chinatown had this nightclub era. Now you will.
Re-emphasizing this…space is usually busy with walk-ins and regulars. BUT they're closing to the public for the evening so we can have the full experience without crowds. This doesn't happen often - don't sleep on this one.
All age and all curiosity levels welcome. Plan subject to change if we feel like it.
See you there.
