Step back in time for an evening of old Hollywood magic at the gorgeous, historic Stanford Theatre – a beautifully restored 1925 movie palace that makes every visit feel like a special occasion. With its ornate décor, plush seating, and surprise intermission treat (shhh… no spoilers!), it’s the perfect setting to see two of the most iconic films ever made – for the grand price of just $7 ($5 for seniors 65+).

🎬 The Birds – 5:20 pm (2 hours)
The Birds is a classic psychological horror film by Alfred Hitchcock about a glamorous San Francisco socialite whose flirtatious romance with a handsome bachelor turns terrifying when birds begin mysteriously attacking a quiet coastal town. Widely regarded as one of Hitchcock’s cinematic masterpieces, the film remains famous for its suspense, atmosphere, and groundbreaking approach to horror. With Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, and Suzanne Pleshette.
💃 Vertigo – 7:30 pm (2 hours 8 minutes)
Vertigo is a haunting psychological thriller by Alfred Hitchcock about a former San Francisco detective who becomes dangerously obsessed with a mysterious woman he is hired to follow. Though initially met with mixed reviews, the film is now widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made, celebrated for its emotional depth, visual style, and masterful suspense. Starring James Stewart and Kim Novak.

🎟 Tickets: One ticket gets you into both movies. $7 regular / $5 seniors (65+).

📍 Let’s meet at 5:00 pm—so we can sit together!
We’ll gather in front of the theater at 5:00 pm and stand in line to buy our tickets (look for our green sparkly streamers!). We can enter together and choose great seats as a group. (Seats are first-come, first-served — another reason to arrive early!)
Tip: The box office opens 30 minutes before the first show of the day at 2:30 pm. If possible, pick up your tickets before dinner so we can go inside at 5 pm to save seats for the group.

🍴 Optional appetizers or dinner before the show
We’ll meet at Oren’s Hummus (just a few doors down at 261 University Ave) at 3:45-4:00 pm for some Mediterranean goodness before the movie. Very reasonable prices. No group reservations (the place is small), so we’ll split into smaller tables.

Free street parking on Sunday. Try side streets off University Ave.
Two big parking garages are within two blocks:
- Bryant Street (north of University Ave)

- Under City Hall (free on Sundays)
