Project Orleans is an Actor-based system developed by Microsoft Research to simplify the creation of large-scale distributed systems deployed to Microsoft Azure. Project Orleans is currently in public preview but it is used in production by 343 Industries to provide game statistics to players of Halo 4. In this presentation, Neil Mackenzie will provide an introduction to Project Orleans, showing how the use of .NET 4.5 makes it easy to create distributed applications that can be developed and tested on a single PC and then deployed to an Azure Cloud Service.
Neil Mackenzie is Azure Lead for Satory Global, where he helps companies migrate onto the Azure Platform. He has been using Azure since its public preview at PDC 2008. Neil wrote the Microsoft Windows Azure Development Cookbook. He speaks about Azure at user groups, developer camps and in Azure training sessions. Neil is a Microsoft MVP for Azure.
