Details

For this meetup, we will start with a HoloLens talk, followed by the main talk about Kubernetes on Azure. Bitnami is sponsoring this meetup; pizza and drinks will be provided.

6:30 p.m. Opening Talk : HoloLens: Cloud-Backed Mixed Reality

In a modern world of cloud computing and virtual reality experiences, see how Mixed Reality from Microsoft intersects with the real world while connected to various cloud services in Azure. Learn how you can get started with HoloLens and the all-new Windows Mixed Reality immersive headsets, while leveraging reusable skills in C#, Visual Studio, Azure, and Cognitive Services.

Speaker: Shahed Chowdhuri is a Sr. Technical Evangelist for Microsoft, published author and a public speaker in the DC Metro area. He focuses on app/game/web development, and Azure cloud training for startups, independent developers, enterprise developers and students. You can find him blogging at WakeUpAndCode.com and also on Twitter via @shahedC.

7:15 p.m. Main talk: Deploying Java apps with Azure Kubernetes Services and Cosmos DB

Simon will show you how to package a Java app in just a few minutes. By combining some modern tooling, including Docker container images and Helm, with some Azure managed services including AKS and CosmosDB, we'll quickly create and deploy a public app. We will then explore how to update it, scale it, and replicate important app data; all without an ops team.

Speaker: Simon Bennett, Bitnami, VP of Product
