Canadian rapper Sonreal was born Aaron Hoffmann in Vernon, British Columbia in 1985. Growing up in a small town, he was interested early on in skateboarding and heavy metal, but his tastes quickly shifted to a love of hip-hop after becoming fascinated with classic albums by pillars of the early-'90s East Coast scene like Nas and Mobb Deep. After graduating high school, he spent all of his free time recording his own original tracks, resulting in his earliest mixtapes such as 2006's Trapped in the Streets, 2009's The Stroll, and the more polished 2011 effort Where's Waldo. He began to be recognized for his work in Canada, and with the help of a breakout video for his track "Everywhere We Go," constant touring, and releasing of new music in the form of EPs and free mixtapes, he eventually inked a deal with Capitol Records. With the support of the label, he delivered his first proper full-length studio album, One Long Dream, in 2017.

Sol always felt like a low-key Haitian-American kid, who stayed true tohis name and avoided the thirst trappings of fame even in themoments of critical acclaim. In the beginning there were some EPsthat made the rounds, and when he had put in his 10,000 hours, ithappened.

He became No. 1 on the US iTunes hip-hop chart, No. 4globally with the 2012 masterwork Yours Truly. His SoundCloudstreams shot to eight figures, then poof... he dipped and left theindustry executives going straight to voicemail.

He had been awardedthe Bonderman Fellowship and left the country so to travel the farreaches of civilization with nothing but a carry-on bag. Africa, India,South America, back home to Haiti. Sol’s field notes became theproject Eyes Open.

Sol followed that with another four-course musicalmeal: The Headspace Traveler, in 2016 which included a headlining22-city U.S. tour. Before you could refresh your browser he was backin the Caribbean watching global football on satellite TVs.

In 2019,came the full length album Soon Enough, and then during thepandemic Sol once again went against the grain by releasing hisproject SUPPLY PACK exclusively in the physical form. A new Solalbum will be released in mid-2023
