Hadoop Innovations at BayLISA

Details

For the May meeting, BayLISA welcomes Alan Gates, co-founder of Hortonworks and author of "Programming Pig"; Eric Sammer, engineering manager at Cloudera and author of "Hadoop Operations," and Ryan Orban, Senior Systems Engineer for Nutanix.

The topics of the night will be innovations in the Hadoop ecosystem, and how/why to get involved with Hadoop if you haven't already. No prior experience with Hadoop is required, but if you have good questions, we'll have the right people to answer them. We'll also have some books and eBook certificates from O'Reilly to give away.

We're planning to begin at 7:45pm with abbreviated announcements, and get into the speakers at 8pm. This will let our friends at LSPE join us but not get the meeting off to too late of a start (the usual goal for 7:30 meetings has been for speakers from 8-10pm, so actually no difference except shortening the announcements).

Our meetings are scheduled for the third Thursday of each month, at Yahoo's 700 1st Ave location in Sunnyvale as of March 2013.

BayLISA includes system and network administrators across a range of skill levels. BayLISA meets to discuss topics of interest to system (server, network, storage, virtualization, big data, config management) administrators of all sorts and platforms and operating systems. The meetings are free and open to the public.

We always welcome presentation topics and volunteer speakers. Use the "Contact us" link on this page to get in touch with BayLISA's directors.

Please rsvp here on Meetup to help us plan for attendance.
