The Current State of Reality Capture
Presented by our sponsor: Microdesk, Inc.
Speaker: Peter Marchese, Microdesk, Senior Consultant
Have you ever designed something, only to find it doesn't fit in the field because your project data was old or outdated? Ever wish you could just take a photo of something and have it just show up in a model? Ever wish that you could be able to work with point cloud data in a simpler and more fluid way? Do you think that reality capture is just laser scanning and is too expensive for you?
In this presentation we will go over what Reality Capture is, and how we can easily acquire and work with data to create models that reflect real-life conditions. We'll review several reality capture techniques and tools, some are even free! The goal will be to show you that it's becoming easier and quicker to gain accurate existing condition models from the field. These tools help people ensure their designs work within the confines of the actual project environment, create quick environmental analysis on existing spaces, and allow for comparison of design models and the as-built reality. Examples shown will range from interior spaces, project sites and historic preservation elements.
