About the Hike:
Lynn Valley to Grouse Mountain vis BCMC
This is a difficult hike.
Stretching across the North Shore from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Deep Cove in North Vancouver, the Baden Powell Trail is a very well-known and heavily-trafficked 45 km point-to-point trail. This length of the trail from Grouse Mountain to Lynn Valley is arguably the most rugged, unstructured, and unmaintained. This is particularly true between the trailhead and Mosquito Creek where the trail is very technical with lots of roots, rocky areas and drop offs to the side.
Even footbridges have been omitted here and crossing the creeks via rocks becomes just another part of the adventure. No part of this trail is exceedingly difficult but agility will be a welcome attribute.
The next section crossing the base of Mount Fromme is a bit smoother but it is also very popular with mountain bikes and you will be required to share the trail. Awareness and coordination with the bikes is critical towards maintaining safety and mutual respect. The last stretch of the trail begins after crossing Mountain Highway. At this point, the bikes disappear and the hike returns to the more commonly known style of the Baden Powell with plenty of boardwalks, long staircases, and gravel paths. This trail justifies a difficult rating due to the accumulated elevation and the 17.6 km point-to-point.
If a more manageable moderate hike is preferred, hikers may choose to leave the group at the base of the Grouse Mountain.
