What we’re about
Just a group for people who like beer and board games. No experience necessary, we just like playing Catan and Ticket to Ride with strangers :)
This group was started by Yaroslav and Elora in their backyard. Then we moved the events to Dream Escape (a board game lounge in Toronto) because there's only that many people that you can fit into a backyard. Now Yaroslav and Elora moved to travel the world, and Dream Escape is currently doing the organizing.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- SATURDAY! - Beer and Casual Board Games in Toronto (again!)Dream Escape - Downtown Escape Games and Lounge, Toronto, ON
Casual board games and beer! No previous experience is necessary. This event takes place in a board game lounge, so there are many board games to choose from. Or bring your favorite game (as long as it's labeled with your name), we are glad to try new ones. Usually, this event doesn't do super-intense games, so Catan is probably the most advanced game you'll play here. But if you want to bring Twilight Imperium - don't let me stop you :)
Note: There is a $15 minimum spend at the bar, but no entrance fee.
There's beer on tap and food you can order.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: When does it start?
A: it lasts from 2pm to midnight and you can show up at any time! People start new games all the time, so you'll likely find a table to join, or start your own table.Q: I don't know anybody, can I come?
A: Of course, this is what this group (and meetup in general) is about. Come and make new friends, people here are very friendly.Q: What happens during the event?
A: It's super casual - people come in, find somebody who wants to play or is playing - and join them. There is no formal process and no central person directing everyone.Q: I don't know how to play games, will there be instructions?
A: Yes, people are always happy to explain games. No expectation of experience.Q: Do I need to bring something/dress up a certain way etc?
A: No you don't need to bring anything, but of course, if you would like to bring any specific board game, you're more than welcome to do so. Also, if you want to dress up, I am not going to stop you :) But there is no dress code. It's a casual lounge setting.Q: I am looking to play a specific game...
A: Ask in the commentsQ: Can I come alone? Can I bring guests?
A: Yes and yes.Q: Something something COVID-19?
A: Since March, Ontario no longer requires proof of vaccination for attending public events.Q: Is this event affiliated with the venue?
A: Yar and Elora (the organizers of the group) are no longer in Canada, and Dream Escape is now one of the organizers of the event. This means that, yes, technically the event is affiliated with the venue. You can read more about Dream Escape on their website.Q: What if too many people show up and it's over capacity?
A: This barely ever happens because the place is huge and people come at different times - some show up at 2, some at 5, some at 8, and people will leave or sometimes not show up at all. In the rare event of hitting capacity - there is another board game place across the street where people can go. - SATURDAY! - Beer and Casual Board Games in Toronto (again!)Dream Escape - Downtown Escape Games and Lounge, Toronto, ON
