Join us for intellectually stimulating conversation (alcohol consumption is optional).

NB: You don't need to consider yourself a "philosopher" (and you certainly don't need to have formally studied philosophy) to come out. I hold a very broad definition of philosophy ("the love of wisdom"), and welcome anyone who is prepared to be polite and have their beliefs questioned.

Beer and Philosophy Night is what I believe university should have been: intelligent conversation and friendly debate, preferably over a few drinks. My definition of philosophy is fairly broad ("the love of wisdom"), hence our discussions range over a wide variety of topics, from science to art to religion. We've discussed topics such as: Can capitalism be ethical? What is the nature of the self? Should we help other people (even if they don't "deserve" our help)? How can we create meaning in our lives? I attempt to emphasize the practical aspects of philosophy (although we tend to get closer to metaphysics by the end of the evening). All participants are expected to be civil, polite, and responsible. Discourteous conduct will be gently admonished, and such behaviour shall not be tolerated indefinitely.
