Join us for an Introduction to Argentine Tango at Maria Empanada.

This seminar will start from zero, while still providing new material for those who took our previous seminar. It is for anyone wishing to get into Tango, learn a little about Tango, or review basics. No partner or previous experience necessary.

The class will be accessible and fun for a wide variety of dance and movement experience levels. Stay after the lesson to eat, drink, get to know each other and maybe dance a little.
This class is free. Donations Appreciated :)

Wednesdays, May 1 - June 5.
Lesson 6:30 - 7:30
Practice, Hangout, Eat, Drink 7:30-8:00

  • May 1: Introduction to moving with a partner, walking, weight shifts, side-steps.
  • May 8: Ochos, front and back (“figure eights”). We will start practicing one of the most unique and defining movements in Tango.
  • May 15: Molinetes and turns. Introducing circular movements, pivoting around your partner.
  • May 23: Paradas. Building up on our circular movements with a common, decorative exit for both leaders and followers.
  • May 30: Sanguchito and follower decorations. Leader’s exploration of foot contact along with moments for the follower to play with musicality.
  • June 5: Musicality. Combining everything we have learned to varied rhythms and orchestras of Tango music.

Dress how you like. Comfy workout clothes and sneakers to more formal date night attire.

Shoes that you can pivot in (i.e. that do not have a very grippy rubber sole, leather sole preferred) will be more comfortable. We will also have "dance socks" available for $2 that you can slip around a sneaker or regular shoe to pivot in.
