Divis and Black Mountain

Grade: Moderate/challenging - 6 miles approx.

Divis is the highest point in the city and commands stunning views.

We’ll start at the carpark at the Barn (not the lower carpark) and walk the Lough Trail to the Tipperary Road, then up Divis Summit Trail and round the Ridge Trail back to the Barn. Allow 15 minutes to walk up from the lower carpark if you use it.

We can go for a coffee at the Standing Stones Lodge after the walk.

Wear sturdy footwear & appropriate clothing but NO trainers as we'll be walking uneven paths. I will refuse ill-equipped walkers.

This walk costs £1 for member or £6 for non members and guests. Please inform guests of footwear needed to undertake the walk safely.

How to get to Divis (also click on location of this meetup for map & directions)

Leave M1 at Junction 2. Take the A55 signed Falls. Go straight across the first two roundabouts. From dual carriageway, turn left onto Upper Springfield Road at the brown directional road sign bearing 'Divis and Black Mountain'. Continue for about 2.5 miles, shortly after the national speed limit sign, turn right onto Divis Road (signposted with brown sign. The turning is immediately at the sign so don't overshoot the turnoff onto Divis Road). National Trust car park is 0.5 miles along Divis Road on the left hand side.

If you need a lift, post up a note saying roughly where you're coming from and hopefully someone can oblige. Please give the driver some money for petrol or buy them a coffee as a thank you!

Public Transport: Ulsterbus 106 between Belfast and Crumlin via Hannahstown, alight Upper Springfield Road at Hairpin Bend stop. Backtrack about 1km citybound along the road. You will see junction bearing National Trust brown sign. Walk 800m up Divis Road and find the entrance to the site on your right hand side.
