Belfast Castle to McArt's Fort
Details
Grade: Moderate - with steep parts but not too challenging.
We'll walk up through the woodland on the lower slopes to the Devil's Punchbowl just below the caves and then on up the shoulder to McArt's Fort where we'll be treated to great views of Belfast, Belfast Lough and the Scottish coast. We'll descend via the path past the limestone quarry and back down to the car park.
After the walk, we can go for a coffee and refreshments somewhere close.
- Wear sturdy footwear with good grip. Some of the paths can be muddy and slippery in places and a walking pole is useful.
- Be prepared for changeable weather.
We meet at Belfast Castle Car Park 2, near the security hut. You can park there or at the Castle car park. If those are full, you can drive past the castle and park on the north side near the adventure playground.
DIRECTIONS: Best way if driving, is to follow the location via the Meetup app on your smartphone. The GPS will take you straight from your location to the start of the walk.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The Metro Antrim Road service (Bus 1a/b/c/d) starts in Upper Queen Street. Get off at Strathmore Park and follow the signpost to Belfast Castle (15 minutes walk). If you need a lift, post up and someone may be able to help. Just post up the general area you need picked up. Give something towards fuel. Please only ask for or give a lift if you're pretty sure you are able to go on the walk.
CAN'T GO - PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVP
If you're not able to make it on the walk, then please update your RSVP to "Not Going" so we know we don't need to wait for you.
