Grade: Moderate - with steep parts but not too challenging.

This is a moderate 3 mile, steep in places trek to the heights of McArt's Fort to see the city below

The walk ascends the old railway route of Mammys and Daddystown from Upper Cavehill Road entrance.

We'll walk the west side of the hill and along to McArt's Fort. Belfast City and Lough will be below us, with views of Divis and the Mournes in the distance. Stunning!

This walks costs £6 for non members or £1 for members who have paid their £20 annual membership.

  • As always wear sturdy footwear with good grip, some of these paths can be muddy and slippery at times.
  • No Trainers - you won't be able to undertake the walk if wearing unsuitable footwear.
  • The forecast is dry, but always best to have warms and waterproofs just in case.

DON'T GO TO BELFAST CASTLE. See Meetup location on the map or follow the directions below.

DIRECTIONS: Best way if driving, is to follow the location via the Meetup app on your smartphone. The GPS will take you straight from your location to the start of the walk. I've checked the directions in Google Maps, it's the best option for navigation.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: There's a 2j bus to Ballysillan or the Bus 1a/b/c... as far as the Antrim Road.

If you need a lift, post up and someone may be able to help. Just post up the general area you need picked up. Give something towards fuel. Please only ask for or give a lift if you're pretty sure you are able to go on the walk.

CAN'T GO - PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVP
If you're not able to make it on the walk, then please update your RSVP to "Not Going" so we know we don't need to wait on you and can start the walk promptly.

If you are lost or late, text or ring Gerry on 07961 901442
