Grade: Easy/Moderate, around 6 miles on tarmac paths and woodchip trails

Join us for a relaxed and scenic circular walk through the beautiful and unique landscape of Peatlands Park. At Junction 13 of the M1, it's only 30 minutes drive from the "Balls of the Falls" in Belfast.

We'll follow the red route which explores woodland paths, open bogland and lakeside scenery in one of Northern Ireland’s most distinctive natural environments — where peat has been forming for over 10,000 years.

Peatlands Park is a protected habitat containing rare plant and insect life, including butterflies, dragonflies and wetland species. The walk combines natural beauty with the cultural landscape of historic turf-cutting areas and restored peatland environments.

Wear walking shoes if you can, though trainers are ok for this walk, just be mindful parts may be a little muddy depending on the weather. Bring a rainjacket just in case. Dogs are welcome.

Bring a packed lunch/snacks and we'll stop for a break along the walk. There is a coffee van and loos near the car park.

The walk costs £6 for non-members and £1 for paid-up members. Details about paying for membership can be found in the “About” section.

DIRECTIONS:
Take the M1 towards Dungannon. Exit the motorway at junction 13. Follow the brown signs at the for Peatlands Park. Once you reach the park, keep going until you come to a big square car park. This is nearest to the information and loos.

To enable satnav directions on your smartphone, just click on the location in the map. It will bring you straight to the meeting point.

If you need a lift to the walk, just post the general area you’re travelling from and a driver may be able to offer you a spot or meet you somewhere convenient. With fuel prices continuing to rise, please give your driver a contribution towards the fuel. Please do not arrange lifts unless you are certain you intend to go.
