Cave Hill evening walk
Details
The forecast for Wednesday looks fairly dry so let's do this iconic walk to the top of Cave Hill as an evening walk and see the stars above us and Belfast below us.
This is a moderate 3 mile, steep in places trek to the heights of McArt's Fort to see the city below
The walk ascends the old railway route of Mammys and Daddystown from Upper Cavehill Road entrance.
We'll walk the west side of the hill and along to McArt's Fort. The lights of the city and Belfast Lough will be below us. Stunning!
Price is £1 for members and £6 for non-members and guests,
DON'T GO TO BELFAST CASTLE. See Meetup location on the map or follow the directions below.
Don't be late for this one as because it's a night walk, everyone needs tagged and a safety brief. CAN'T GO - please update your RSVP so we're not waiting on you.
Bring a torch. If you've a dog I suggest a glow in the dark collar or similar.
Wear warm, waterproof clothing. Good sturdy boots/shoes are essential. Walking pole are recommended. Do not turn up in trainers. I will refuse anyone with unsuitable footwear.
As usual, post up if you need a lift telling us where you're coming from.
Directions
By car: Go up the Antrim Road, (From Westlink it's the Clifton Street turnoff), take the second exit at the roundabout to continue up the Antrim Road. After about 2 miles turn left onto Cavehill Road. Go up this road until you get to a set of traffic lights (at the junction of Cavehill Road and North Circular Road). Drive straight over onto Upper Cavehill Road. Drive straight up to the end of this road and the entrance is on your right.
There is a Metro 2j to Ballysillan bus that goes from Donegal Place (near M&S) to Cavehill Road near the rendezvous point. Just ask the driver for directions to end of Upper Cavehill Road. The number 1 bus route goes along the Antrim Road and it's about a 15 minute walk along the Cavehill Road to the Upper Cavehill Road meeting point.
As usual phone or SMS 07583 042962 if you get lost.
