Grade: Moderate (mainly because of the ~7 mile distance), suitable for all skill levels

We’ll meet at Newcastle Bus Station at 11:45am and take the bus (departs 12noon) towards Mount Panther to start the walk. From there we’ll walk back to Newcastle along a beautiful coastal route.

There's no parking at the start point, so using the bus allows us to do a great A to B walk without the need to do a car drop. For those who would prefer a shorter walk, you can meet us in Dundrum and join the walk there (just let me know so we're not waiting on you in Newcastle).

The walk will start at 12:25pm and follows sections of the Dundrum Coastal Path, offering fantastic views across Dundrum Bay and towards the Mourne Mountains. The path is mostly flat and easy-going, running beside the shoreline and through open coastal scenery.

Our route continues through Murlough Nature Reserve, walking among dunes and nature trails in this unique coastal landscape. This stretch has some of the best views of the Mournes and Dundrum Bay, and it’s a great place to spot birdlife. Along the way we’ll pass dunes, tidal flats, and plenty of birdlife, so bring a camera if you enjoy nature photography.

This A to B walk finishes back in Newcastle, where anyone who wishes can stay for coffee, food, or a drink afterwards.

What to bring:

  • Bring money for the bus. Dogs are allowed on bus at the driver's discretion.
  • Walking shoes are fine for this walk, though bear in mind that some sections may be muddy depending on recent weather.
  • Bring a packed lunch though we intend to stop at the picnic tables in Murlough Nature Reserve. There is a coffee van there, but not sure if it does food.

Getting there:
Click on the location link for map and directions, this will open up in Google Maps which will provide full directions for getting there.
Be sure to arrive in good time to catch the bus!

Public transport - just take the 520 bus to the Mount Panther stop, no need to go all the way to Newcastle. Please let me know if you plan to do this so we're not waiting on you in Newcastle.

Walk costs £6 for non-members and guests and £1 for members. Please read 'Pages' for more info on the group.

Lost or late, phone or text me on 07583 042962

Looking forward to a great coastal walk and good company! Maria
