Tardree Forest
Details
Grade: Moderate, approximately 3½-7 miles
Tardree is one of Northern Ireland’s oldest state forests and a superb place for a wild wander. The gradient of the walk is moderate, with some steep but not difficult sections along the way.
There are various walking trail options to choose from and we can easily while away an entire afternoon among the trees whilst enjoying the peace and quiet. The forest hosts a healthy wildlife population with numerous bird species present.
There are occasional clearings offering views over the Antrim Plateau, Slemish, Lough Neagh, and the Belfast Hills. The terrain primarily consists of woodland trails, which can be muddy in sections, and gentle ascents.
Bring: a rain jacket just in case and good walking shoes/boots and poles if you use them. Also bring a packed lunch and we'll stop to take in the beautiful views along the way.
Anyone needing a lift to the meeting point can post up requesting transport. Indicate the general area you are coming from and a driver in the area may oblige. Please give driver something for petrol. Please use normal worldly discretion.
Directions: Just click on the location balloon on your Meetup smartphone app and your phone GPS will bring you straight to the meeting point.
