Ballyhornan Coastal Path
Details
The forecast for Sunday is for dry weather in Lecale, so let's go to beautiful Ballyhornan!
----------------------------------
Grade: Moderate, approximately 6-8 miles
This is a walk along the spectacular Sheepland Coast from Ballyhornan to Chapeltown, in the Lecale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The coastline is rich in flora, sea birds and history.
Our walk along the coast will take us past Guns Island to St Patricks Well. We can then walk along quiet country lanes to Ardtole Church for stunning views of the Mournes framed by the ancient ruins of Artole Church.
The path is mostly easy though there are a couple of small banks and some uneven parts, so boots and poles are recommended. Bring a raincoat and change of clothes just in case.
Please bring drinks and a snack.
There are options for refreshments, we can go for fresh fish and chips in Ardglass. An alternative option is to go to Currans in Chapeltown instead of Ardtole Church.
Car sharing is recommended, so if you need a lift, post up the general area you're coming from (not your home address!) and hopefully someone can help out. Please give the driver something towards the petrol, the suggested amount is £5+. We ask that all drivers and passengers respect this to keep things fair.
Price is the usual £1 for members and £6 for guests and non-members.
If lost or late on the day, contact Maria on 07583-042962 by text or phone call. Old fashioned texts or calls are best when out walking, often there's not much signal.
See you there!
