Monday Evening Hike of Alger Alp

Details
Ready for a nice evening cardio workout with great views of Mt. Baker and the Olympics? Then Alger Alp this Monday is the hike for you! This is a 5 mile out-and-back hike with about 1,000 feet elevation gain and a max altitude of 1,277 feet.
We will start at the Squires Lake Trailhead off of Old Highway 99 (see driving directions below) and begin by hiking around the north side of Squires Lake. We will then navigate a network of trails and logging roads to reach the summit of Alger Alp. Part way up we can stop at a viewpoint with views of the Twin Sisters and Mt. Baker. The top opens up to views to the south and west. I-5 rumbles far below you.
- Well behaved dogs welcome and must be on a leash while in Squires Lake Park.
- No parking pass required.
- There is NO bathroom at the trailhead anymore, so you're on your own!
Stamina Alert: If you've never done this hike before, it's on a combination of narrow trails with roots and gravel roads, with the last half mile a steady uphill climb on a road. Hiking poles are recommended if you have any doubts. We'll be hiking at a steady pace to make sure we're back before dark. I'd like for us to stay as one group.
We will cancel for high winds, monsoon rains, or for heavy snow. We will hike sun, rain, snow, or sleet.
Driving directions: Take I-5 to exit 242. Turn east onto Nulle Road which becomes Old Hwy 99. In less than 1/2 mile, turn left into the well marked Squires Lake Trailhead parking lot with room for about 12 vehicles. There's additional parking along the road if the lot's full.
