Monday Evening Samish Crest Grand Tour

Details

We haven't done an evening hike for a while, so let's enjoy some great views and fun trails in a largely unknown part of the city.

The Grand Tour of Samish Crest is a 4.0 mile hike with about a 400 foot total elevation gain. We'll be hiking on a mix of trails, gravel roads, and narrow social paths, with a stunning view of the San Juan Islands and Canada the highlight. The elevation is made up of several short, steep sections, otherwise the trail is rolling and easy.

NOTE: while this isn't a strenuous hike, there a few hilly, rocky, and slippery sections. Good shoes are very highly recommended and poles are encouraged for anyone that might have any balance issues.

We'll be hiking at a moderate pace and will take a short break at the overlook for photos. In order to be done before it gets dark, we'll need to keep moving and not dawdle too much.

Samish Crest is made up of an undeveloped Bellingham city park and adjoining open space and is one of the hidden gems in the city. You are immediately surrounded by dense forest that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of town and lets you enjoy the quiet of the woods. The trails are little used so we should mostly have them to ourselves.

We'll meet at the corner of Yew St. Rd. & Reveille Rd., by the city water tank. Please park along Yew St. Rd. and NOT on Reveille.

Dogs are welcome on leash.

Because there is a complex of trails, I'd like to stay together as a group for this hike so no one gets lost.
