3rd Annual New Year's Day Lizard & Lily Lakes Hike
Details
Join us for the 3rd Annual New Year's Day Lily & Lizard Lakes hike! This is a great way to start the new year on the right foot, with a scenic loop hike totaling about 7.5 miles and 1,300' of elevation gain with great views of the San Juan islands and Salish Sea, and maybe even Mt. Baker.
Note: This hike is weather dependent. Keep an eye on the comments for updates as the day gets closer.
Overall, it's a moderate hike, with only one section of 1.5 miles of sustained, uphill hiking, plus a few shorter uphill sections. We'll stop at Lizard Lake for a short snack stop, and then head to North Butte for lunch. From there it's down to Lily Lake followed by several miles of downhill to get back to the parking lot.
Pace will be moderate to medium, not fast, and the group needs to stay together. Please be capable of a hiking pace of about 1.5-2 MPH over this terrain and distance. Due to the short day, we'll need to keep moving to ensure we get back in the daylight.
Notes:
- No parking pass is required - Jan. 1 is the first of WA State Parks free days.
- This is a dog-friendly hike.
- A bathroom is available at the trailhead.
