There's a goodish forecast for Tuesday, so let's hike!! We need to take advantage of any half-decent weather and this hike is on the south side of Blanchard Mountain for the best chance of sun and great views.

This is an easy 6.5 mile total hike with 750 feet of elevation gain that follows the Pacific Northwest Trail. The trail is mostly a moderate uphill grade that flattens out toward the end, and finishes with (hopefully) spectacular views of the Samish flats, San Juan Islands, Olympic Mountains, and even Mt. Rainier on a perfect day (hah!!!!). We'll stop for a bit at the overlook to enjoy the views, soak up the sun (??), and nibble on snacks.

  • We will meet at the Blanchard Upper Trailhead parking lot, up the gravel road from Barrel Springs Road.
  • A Discover Pass is required at the trailhead.
  • Well behaved dogs on leash welcome.
  • There is a restroom at the parking lot and one at the overlook.

It will be cold, be sure to dress appropriately. There will be runoff and mud from the recent storms, and maybe some trees down.

Stamina Alert: This is a moderate level hike. You should be comfortable with our local trails and be in shape to hike for several miles. Planned pace is moderate. I would like to stay together as one group.
