Mount Dickerman is the classic Mountain Loop Highway viewpoint climb. Relentless. Rewarding. Quite hard with 3875 ft elevation gain to summmit at 5723 ft elevation, and 8.6 miles round trip (typical hiking time 6 hr).
Meeting time at trailhead is 9 am.
Trip leader will meet carpool at 7 am South Bellingham Park and Ride (East) I-5 exit 250 for Old Fairhaven Parkway; address for Park and RIde 3404 Connely Ave at 33rd St. This is the Park and Ride on the East side of I-5 exit; ignore the Park and Ride on the West side of I-5 that is harder to find.
Skagit attendees are free to organize their own carpool and communicate plan with trip leader. There is usually more than sufficient parking at the trailhead parking lot on weekdays, so you don't need to limit the cars that drive to the trailhead. The trailhead parking lot is on the left side of Mountain Loop Highway 27 miles east of Granite Falls. Don't take the Perry Creek trail on the opposite end of the parking lot from the Mount Dickerman trail.
Carry plenty of water as stream crossings are not reliable. At the time of this posting during the first week in June, there is still snow high up, and most people will want ski poles and microspike traction devices for boots. The snow may well be gone by our scheduled date. There are some downed trees that have not been cleared that are easy to get past. There are areas of high exposure just off the trail so be mindful where the cliffs are beyond the viewpoints. Dogs allowed.
