What we're about

This group is operated by The Town of Berlin 11/16/2021. Meetup @ the Library hosts free movies, craft programs, various seminars, specialty speakers, concerts, reading and cooking clubs. It’s always an adventure at Berlin-Peck, so come see what’s new at the Library!
Please note that many programs require registration directly with the library, not through Meetup RSVPs!

Cookbook Club

Berlin-Peck Memorial Library

Please register through the library and let us know what you're bringing: https://berlinpeck.org/events/2023-1-cookbook-club/

Do you enjoy flipping through cookbooks to decide what to make?
Do you search through recipes for inspiration?
Come join our monthly book club, featuring cookbooks!

You do not need to be an experienced cook, just an enthusiastic one!
To participate, register for the program and pick a recipe from this month’s cookbook. Make the dish on your own, and then gather for a feast. While we eat, we’ll discuss the cookbook, its recipes and the process of choosing what to make and how to make it. We will aim to evenly distribute the recipes among starters and sides, main courses, and desserts.

Visit the Reference Desk to pick a recipe. January’s cookbook is Smitten Kitchen Keepers: New Classics for Your Forever Files by Deb Perelman.

Berlin-Peck Memorial Library

Please register through the library's website: https://berlinpeck.org/events/courageous-conversations-tips-and-tricks/

How do you respond when a friend or family member starts talking about a political or social issue, and their opinion is the exact opposite of yours?

…Mumble something and walk away as soon as possible?

…Argue with them because they’re so clearly wrong!?

What you may be missing with these responses is an opportunity to build connection. How can you do that and not go crazy yourself? Drawing from research and experience, we’ll teach you how to determine when to engage in conversation, how to keep things respectful, and why it matters.

This course is for everyone, beginners and experienced conversationalists alike.

What are Courageous Conversations?
Courageous Conversations is a small-group discussion series that will provide an opportunity for people of all backgrounds and viewpoints to discuss important local, cultural, social, and political issues in a safe environment where differing opinions, patient listening, and respectful discussion are welcomed as a necessary part of building connection with others and identifying shared values. Participants may be asked to read short articles, books, or listen to podcasts prior to the meetings and will be asked to abide by our shared discussion guidelines.
Library staff will facilitate the conversations and ensure that all participants have the opportunity to share in the discussion.

The event is in person and attendance space is limited; please remember to register.
